We’re sure you’ve been there – connecting with a potential client on a discovery call, all seems to be going well, when out of the blue: “if you can’t guarantee that I’ll go viral regularly and have 1,000 new followers a week, I won’t be working with you”. Eek! All social media managers understand that making guarantees like this is just impossible, but it puts you in a really difficult situation – do I make the guarantee and get the client, or stick to my guns and lose them? What if we said there was a third option?!

Understanding why a client wants a guarantee is the key to getting out of this awkward moment. If they think that going viral or getting more followers is going to make them more sales, then it’s your job to explain that that’s not always how these things work. Some clients will just feel so nervous about handing off work to someone else that they feel a guarantee will give them confidence in making the investment. However, there are ways that you can make a client feel confident in you and your abilities, without making any guarantees around results you can’t control – and so that’s what we’re going to cover in today’s episode!

After you’ve listened, you’ll feel ready to speak to your potential clients with authority, making them realise that you are the expert in what their account needs, not them! It’s just a few small tweaks you can make, so tune in now.

In this episode, we’re chatting about:

  • Why you shouldn’t be making any guarantees to your potential clients
  • What to do if a potential client says they want a guarantee that you can get them 40,000 followers a week or go viral daily
  • Our main tips for getting clients feeling confident in you and the work you do
  • Being honest about what you can actually guarantee to a potential client
